Fluffy
This story comes from Lynn Smith, a One By One volunteer
This is the story of Fluffy. Fluffy was abandoned by his family
the end of September, along with all his other animal friends, and
left to fend for himself along with his two cat buddies. The other
animals found homes.
One by One received a call from a caring lady who was feeding the
three cats. All of the cats were neutered and front declawed. They
were outside in all kinds of inclement weather. Since I work very
close to where they were being fed, I volunteered to try to capture
Fluffy and his friends.
The one kitty, Tigger-Tom was rescued by a One by One volunteer
and found a home. The other two cats, both long hairs, were harder
to catch. I had humane traps set inside the lady's shed and on the
front porch. But the cats would only sniff at the front of the trap
and would not enter. The one cat went to the neighbor, walked into
her garage, and made itself at home. That was the first happy ending.
Fluffy was now alone and very scared of people. Whenever I would
pull into the driveway to bait the traps, he would disappear. I
decided that he knew my car and what I was up to, so I decided to
park down the road where he wouldn't see me. After five weeks of
trying to capture him, I finally caught him in the trap. After some
battle scars for me and a hair cut for him, Fluffy was now able
to be adopted into a loving home.
He was taken to a veterinary hospital for a thorough check up and
a hair cut. Since he was a long haired cat and was out in the snow,
ice and rain, his coat was heavily matted.
Fortunately for Fluffy, the people who adopted his kitty friend,
Tigger-Tom, adopted Fluffy as well. He is now in a wonderful home
with lots of kitty friends never to be abandoned again. He is shy
and untrusting of people. Fluffy loves to watch the fish in the
fish tank and likes the bedroom as well.
I want to personally thank his new kitty parents for opening their
hearts and home to this poor soul. I also want to thank the lady
who fed him and gave him shelter all of those months when it was
so cold - and for giving him love and care.
This is what makes rescue and volunteering at One by One well worth
the effort - battle scars and all - a very happy ending!
