Lucky
This story comes from the Summer 2003 edition of Hands
Helping Paws
Last August we admitted a ten-month old black and white female
cat who was found as a stray in the country near a barn. We named
her Lucky, which turned out to be a very appropriate name for her.
As time went on, it was apparent that Lucky was blind, had toxoplasmosis,
and also seemed to have some meurological proglems. We kept Lucky
in a large cage in our vestibule, as she needed to be confined and
could not function in our regular cat living areas. We prayed for
help and hoped that Lucky would improve and not have to live in
a cage the rest of her life.
Rose, one of the volunteers, took a shine to Lucky. She took her
to a neorology specialist and paid the bill herself. It was discovered
that Lucky was having seizures which probably caused her blindness.
How she functioned outside before coming to us is a mystery! Medicine
helped to control Lucky's seizures. Always an avid eater, she gained
weight and was doing better. Rose decided to adopt Lucky. Her husband
built a very large cage for Lucky to spend her nights in.
Rose works at home and Lucky stays with Rose in her office. In
the evenings and on weekends, Lucky sits on Rose's lap when Rose
watches television. Rose even installed a baby monitor in her bedroom
to check on Lucky throughout the night. Rose and Lucky have really
bonded and love each other very much. How lucky they are to have
each other! An angel was sent to watch over Lucky and provide her
with a quality life!
