One By One will care for the cats in our care for life if necessary.
We do not euthanize to make room for more animals. We utilize shelter space and foster homes while trying to find a permanent home for the needy feline. We’re committed to this for the life of the animal, if necessary. Successful adoptions allow us to save more animals by providing funds and resources to continue our work. By adopting a cat from One by One, you will have found a loving companion for life, and will help free up a much needed space for another cat in need.
- One by One safely houses cats for as long as is needed to find its perfect new home
We believe that there is someone who will find him or her to be the perfect companion. Sometimes all that is needed is the time for them to find each other. - One by One uses foster homes to house cats and kittens.
Foster homes know their foster pets much better than any employee of a pet store or even the local SPCA. Our foster cats become family members, not just numbers. Each foster parent can tell the adoptive parent something about each cat; their likes and dislikes, their temperament and their quirks - Every dollar donated to One by One goes directly to the care of our cats
One by One does not work for a profit. Every single dollar collected as a donation or as an adoption fee is used to directly benefit the animals currently in our care, as well as those still needing and awaiting rescue. - Lack of funds does not equal lack of care
Sadly, donations received do not always meet the expenses created by our cats’ needs. But our dedicated volunteers ensure that each cat is respectfully cared for with all life’s necessities, love, and proper medical care. Our volunteers sacrifice their time and money to meet any shortfall and to ensure that every cat receives the care they need. - All of our cats are properly vetted
All our cats are properly FIV/Felv tested, wormed, inoculated, flea treated, and neutered according to their respective ages. After adding in the cost of all these procedures you will find that our adoption fees are quite reasonable. - Each home is properly screened
We conduct a home visit to learn about your family so each of our cats can be placed according to his or her needs. We know that our potential adopters would not wish to find out later that the pet they fell in love with did not work within their life style.
One by One requires an application, preliminary home visit and follow-up phone calls. Please see our adopt a cat page for information on adopting from One By One.
When choosing a cat many people make the mistake of choosing according to their appearance. The best way to choose your lifelong companion is to take a good look at your own lifestyle and expectations as well as how much time you are willing to commit. It is of the utmost importance that the cat(s) you adopt have a comfortable and happy life in their new home.
In our experience, kittens adopted in pairs produce emotionally stable and happy cats. There are benefits to the household as well. For further information, please read our document on adopting kittens.
An adoption fee varies depending on the age/breed of the kitten/cat. Adoption fees are non-refundable.

One By One does not euthanize to make room for other cats. Our goal is to find a happy, loving home for each kitty. However, we do not allow a cat who is seriously ill with no hope of recovery/ terminally ill to suffer.
How should I introduce my adopted cat to her new home?
The introduction process is very important. You want to make sure your new family member is not intentionally subjected to negative actions. Meeting everything and everyone can take time – there is no need to rush the process. More information introducing a new cat to your home.
